American Made FAQs

The 2014 Martha Stewart American Made Awards

What is the Martha Stewart American Made program?

American Made is a program that spotlights the maker, supports the local, and celebrates the handmade. We honor and showcase people who have turned their passion for quality craftsmanship and well-designed goods into a way of life.

What is the Martha Stewart American Made Awards competition?

Each year Martha Stewart Living honors a group of makers, craftspeople, small-business owners, and innovators from across the country in four key categories: crafts, design, food, and style. These makers are recognized for their dedication to creative entrepreneurship and to building successful businesses and communities. These individuals earn the title of American Made Award Winner.

How are the winners selected?

From all the published nominees, up to 1,000 finalists will be selected to compete for the American Made Awards across the categories of crafts, design, food, and style. Of these finalists, up to 800 will be handpicked by our panel of esteemed judges. But that's not your only chance to be a finalist -- activate your social network on Facebook and Twitter to earn one of the remaining 200 wild-card spots. From the entire pool of finalists, 10 Award Winners will be named: nine by the judges, and one by our audience.

What can I win?

For the nine judge-selected American Made Award Winners and one Audience Choice Award Winner: a trip for two to New York City to attend the American Made event; a spot in our American Made Market; $10,000 to grow your business; a video produced by our in-house team; and the opportunity to be featured in Martha Stewart Living magazine, on SiriusXM radio, and on our website. Read the official rules for complete prizing information.

When does voting begin?

Voting for the American Made Audience Choice Award Winner begins September 15, 2014, at 9 a.m. EST.

The American Made Market

What is the American Made Market?

An extension of Martha Stewart’s American Made program, the American Made Market on eBay celebrates a new generation of great American makers -- people who are building a life out of their passions, people whose stories are possible only in America.

By supporting small businesses and small-batch makers, communities are contributing to a growing nationwide maker movement. It’s a movement that connects goods to the people and histories that helped create them.

That growing desire for connection has led to the launch of the American Made Market on eBay. With your support, we will continue to celebrate the people and the products that bring the essence of the American story to life. Discover our favorite American makers and products, handpicked for you each month by Martha and the editors at Martha Stewart Living.

How can I join the American Made Market?

Our editors are always looking for new American makers. We seek the same things in products that we do in a good story: authenticity, quality, beauty, and craftsmanship. With that in mind, submit your information or recommend an American maker you know or admire here.

Does my product have to be made in America to be considered for the American Made Market?

Yes. “Made in America” means that “all or virtually all” of the product has been made in America -- that is, all significant parts, processing, and labor that go into the product must be of U.S. origin. Products should not contain any -- or should contain only negligible -- foreign material.

Why haven’t I heard back about my submission to join the American Made Market?

Our American Made team reviews each submission we receive. We have a rolling acceptance policy; we will consider your submission as the American Made Market grows and we expand the assortment. If there is a future opportunity to include your business or the business of a maker you’ve recommended, we will be in touch.

On behalf of the American Made team, we appreciate your enthusiasm in supporting the program.

What if I have a problem with a product I purchased through the American Made Market?

A network of individual makers fulfills all products purchased through the American Made Market on eBay. If you have questions or issues with any of your purchases, please review the individual maker’s eBay seller profile. A link to this profile can be found on the product listing or in an email confirmation for your purchase.

On the eBay seller profile, information is provided for you to contact the maker directly with specific product questions. Please contact us for further assistance.

What if I am having trouble purchasing a product in the American Made Market?

If you are experiencing any difficulties on the eBay platform, please contact the eBay customer support team directly.
